We intake strays and abandoned dogs from the City of Gonzales. We do try to help strays and abandoned dogs from the County of Gonzales when there is space available at the shelter. Gonzales is a rural town, 60 miles from both Austin and San Antonio, and has a population of only around 8000 residents. However our small shelter intakes about 30 dogs a month on average. We are an open-door facility, which means we cannot turn away ANY dogs from the City of Gonzales, and our shelter has a maximum capacity of 70-80 dogs. We try very hard not to put down ANY adoptable dogs for the sole reason of making space, and have maintained our status as one of the very few “Open-Door-LESS-Kill” municipal shelters in TX. We rely on donations and adoption fees to cover operational costs. Any donations is greatly appreciated.
All of the dogs at our shelter have been fully vaccinated and have been spay/neutered. Come and Adopt’em!
